Fracking is a controversial issue in the United States. People are arguing whether or not to drill for natural gas using fracking techniques, but there are also people that want to know if it has any environmental impacts. There are many political implications with this topic because of where you stand on the subject. In this blog post, we will explore some of these issues and talk about what fracking means in politics!
What Exactly Is Fracking?
Fracking is a process used by oil companies to extract more fossil fuels from underground layers that have been deemed difficult to reach otherwise. This method allows them access into new pockets of previously unreachable energy stores which make extraction easier and cheaper than traditional drilling methods.
The biggest fear surrounding fracking is that it can cause groundwater contamination. There are reports that fracking fluids might escape through the cracks in well casings and enter nearby water systems, which would make people sick if they drank or used this water for any purpose.
However, there is not enough evidence to prove that fracking fluid has contaminated drinking water supplies in these cases. That being said, this process has been known to cause earthquakes and there are still environmental concerns associated with fracking.
What Does Fracking Have To Do With Politics?
There are many companies that are for fracking but there are also some that have concerns. The biggest argument in favor of fracking is that it will allow the U.S. to become more energy independent and stop relying on foreign oil.
An abundance of natural gas could bring down prices, which would be beneficial for manufacturing businesses because they use a lot of energy. However, there are also several businesses that have concerns about the environmental impact.
The Last President’s Stand on Fracking
Former US president Donald Trump was a controversial figure to say the least. So anything he did was a big news. This is why we can’t move forward without talking about his stance on fracking. There are many politicians on both the Republican and Democratic Party that support fracking. Donald Trump is one of those people who support fracking. In fact at the end of his presidency he signed an executive order in favor of fracking. Since he has left office, Joe Biden has been elected to take on the duties of the president. Unknowingly to a lot of people, Biden also came out to be a controversial figure and his stance on fracking is also not without its opponents.
The former president Donald Trump has been using Joe Biden’s stance on fracking against him. Biden says that he is in favor of fracking as a procedure however he would like to ban certain elements in the fracking industry like banning any new fracking on federal land.
The fact of the matter is that some states have benefited from fracking while other have felt the negative effects of the respective process. To this day, fracking has not been completely banned in any state but there are numerous restrictions on it according to different states’ policies. The government is trying to find ways to balance the benefits and costs associated with fracking itself while taking into consideration all of the external factors that can affect the health and safety of its citizens.
