If we can’t get the candidate himself, we’ll ask a former debater and current supporter.

On PoliGazette next Friday at 1pm Central time, Michael will ask his questions and your questions about why anyone would support Obama. And Jason will answer those questions.

Framing the Health Care Debate

Filed under: 2008 elections, Blog Talk Radio, Blog Talk Radio Shows / Hosts, Feature, Health Care, United States — Jason, Managing Editor on January 4, 2008 @ 9:13 pm CET

On today’s PoliGazette talk radio show, I got into a brief debate with Pamela Leavey from Democratic Daily about Democrats’ proposals for universal health care. Pamela argued that universal health coverage would involve costs that are a relatively easy load on individuals and would substantially reduce the current escalation in overall health care costs. During the show and the after-show, I pointed out that universal health care proposals do not take into account may of their secondary costs, including the necessity of rationing and the loss of incentives for investment in research and development upon which all universal health care systems — including those in Canada and Europe beloved by many liberals — ultimately rely.

A column in today’s Wall Street Journal adds some additional points. (more…)

An Inspiring Story

Yesterday, Ed Morrissey talked with Nader Elguindi, author of My Decision to Live for Ed’s program at Blog Talk Radio. Ed explains at his blog: “Today on CQ Radio (2 pm CT), we’ll talk to Nader Elguindi, who has authored a book that details his experience in overcoming adversity and devastating physical injuries to requalify as a US Navy submariner. Titled My Decision to Live, Elguindi has directed all proceeds to benefit the Walter Reed Medical Center, where he now works as a peer counselor. I’ve been looking forward to interviewing Elguindi for a while now, and this should be a fascinating hour.”

Go and listen to it, very inspiring.

Blogging Stuff

I have added several features to the right sidebar, namely: “Essays by D.H. Lawrence” and “Blog Talk Radio”. Blog Talk Radio is a fairly new phenomenon, but it is great for those who, like me, are addicted to news. The two ‘hosts’ I link to are Shaun OMac and Ed Morrissey. Shaun is Center, Ed - of course - conservative, but both thoughtful, reasonable and, quite simply, great listening to.

So - check those two Blog Talk Radio shows out.
