The Vote Reaper

A conservative African American, registered voter of the Republican Party, is quickly becoming famous on YouTube. Tens of thousands of people have become a fan in recent weeks and months. Here is one of his most successful videos, called “The Vote Reaper.” He published it on YouTube July 29, 2008. It has been viewed by more than 80,000 individuals.

The producer of this movie, Alfonzo, is becoming somewhat of a celebrity. He is often praised for his videos, for their humor and, at the same time, pursuasiveness. He runs his own YouTube channel, on which he directly addresses fellow African Americans. He is a conservative black Republican, who believes that progressive black Americans are often in danger of putting themselves and all other African Americans in the victim role.

Another video which caused the producer to be celebrated by conservatives - both blacks and whites - is this one:

Unlike the first video we published in this article, this one is purely a monologue. Alfonzo addresses the viewer directly, making the African American case for conservatism.

Alfonzo is not an uncontroversial figure, however. One of his videos about gay marriage was deleted by YouTube after some users complained about its content, finding it insulting. There are also members of the African American community, and white progressives, who have accused him of a variety of sins most prominent and vocal conservative African Americans have faced.

His videos and approach to politics are highly refreshing. Alfonzo does not demonize his critics, or those he disagrees with politically. He summarizes a specific liberal policy view, and then explains why he disagrees with it. This is, sadly, a rare feature these days.

Lastly, another video, one that was viewed by some 10,000 people. This video is strong because Alfonzo speaks directly to his fellow African Americans for minutes. He addresses the issue of him being called Uncle Tom, African Americans calling each other n*gg@r, what he calls ‘a slave mentality’ in the black community, and a whole array of other issues. It is yet again a video that shows just why Alfonzo is different.

That was NOT intended to sound racist, rather, it was intended to show my support.

Thanks, & God Bless - from Maryland!
