David Cameron - Britain’s Next Prime Minister Has Arrived

October 6th, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

The speech David Cameron, leader of the conservative Tory part, gave during his party’s conference impressed many. Cameron succeeded in blowing Gordon Brown away - who gave a speech during the earlier Labor conference, in which he said little to nothing that would have excited voters - and in presenting traditional British conservatism in a way that appeals to most voters, especially to traditional conservatives and centrists and liberals.

Here’s a part of the speech (a video of the entire speech follows below):

Cameron wasn’t just able to present a new, fresh, yet old and traditional view of British conservatism, but he also came across as an energetic, charismatic leader. A man in charge of his party, and able to unite people in order to “work together.” Not unimportant is the length of the speech: Cameron spoke for more than one hour. That’s a very long speech indeed, one only a confident politician can give.

And confident Cameron is, that much is clear. He’s confident about conservatism and about his own abilities. Something tells me we saw Britain’s next Prime Minister delivering one of the best speeches of his career, at a critical time, last week.

For those of you who have more time, here’s the speech in its entirety:
