Bill O’Reilly Blasts Barney Frank

Via Small Dead Animals where Kate McMillan comments “I recall having a teacher whom I didn’t like because she was always unloading us … for no good reason. But, I’ve got to admit, that when she unloaded on people I didn’t like … it felt kind’a good.”

Hey, you think Frank’s relationship with an executive at Fannie Mae may have had something to do with his defense of Fannie and Freddie back in the day?

No, probably not. Frank is professional enough to separate his political and private life, right?

Like Kate, I’m no fan of O’Reilly but… you’ve got to love  him for going after Frank in this way; Frank deserved it - he was one of the leaders of Congress who saw the Fannie and Freddie ship go down, yet did nothing to protect private investors who, as O’Reilly rightfully pointed out, lost millions due to the stupidity and selfishness of some people in Washington D.C. and Wall Street.

I agree, although mostly O’Reilly’s blustering is so frequent that it loses almost all impact, so that even when it’s directed at someone highly deserving it can appear as though this is just O’Reilly erupting as usual.

Plus, he didn’t even attack Frank on the most appropriate charge; it’s not that Frank recently said that Fannie and Freddie were sound, it was when he was saying that during the hearings that uncovered the massive fraudulent schemes that were putting our economy at risk. Frank and his fellow Democrats were actively trying to block any oversight of the GSE’s, and they should minimally be tossed out of office if not criminally prosecuted for that malfeasance.

O’Reilly completely missed the opportunity to call him out on this when Frank said that he tried to do something about the problem at the first opportunity he had when the Dems gained control of Congress. Bill should have had the clip of those ‘04 hearings ready to roll right then to show that Frank didn’t fail to do something then due to Republican control of Congress- he failed because he chose to be on the other side defending Fannie Mae and BLOCKING the GOP attempts that were led by Congressman Baker (R).

Christine is right on his shouting.  He needs to calm down.  Sometimes it’s more effective to be calm and fact your opponent into embarrassment.  O’Reilly has a problem there.

And Michael, why not a fan of O’Reilly?  I don’t agree with him on a number of issues, but he doesn’t say a lot of good things sometimes.
