The Wrong Running Mates

September 26th, 2008 By: Michael Merritt | Tags:

This entry was originally going to be solely about Biden.  Then I watched the Palin interview with Katie Couric, and came to a conclusion:

These two vice presidential choices are probably the worst I have ever seen.  Biden says too much, and Palin says too little.  Biden mixes up his facts and gets his history plain wrong, and then slaps his own campaign in the face, while Palin can’t bring up any facts or history.  Biden comes off as a know-it-all (and then gaffes it up) while Palin comes off not knowing anything.  The worst thing is that Obama had to know Biden was like this and chose him anyway, while McCain clearly didn’t vet Palin enough to know she wasn’t ready for a situation like this and chose her anyway!

If you want some amusement, video of their latest gaffe and stutterfests are after the jump.

On a sidenote, my profession is video production.  I noticed that Couric was using what appears to be a consumer level video camera during her tagalong with Biden.  First of all, there was clearly a cameraman there, so why weren’t they shooting the interviews with the people Couric was asking questions to?

Second, why did someone not set up the camera before giving it to her?  It was in some sort of squeeze mode, and they couldn’t fix it when they went to edit, obviously, but it looks really strange.  And noticeable.  I wouldn’t have used the interviews.

I admit as someone who thought Palin was a good pick it’s been a really bad week and that’s the worst interview I have seen a politician give.

I still think that she has an opportunity to fix her image with better interviews and of course a good showing at the debate.

Right now I am seeing a lot of the sky is falling where after the convention I heard the insane talk of "she’s the next Reagan".

I also agree that with others that the McCain campaign is sheltering her way too much. I have to think that’s why these interviews have been so spectacularly bad and also why they have been so picked apart.

As for Biden, well he is Biden. But luckily Palin is making such a stink of it and with the bailout mess no one is really talking about his gaffes. Also at least these recent ones aren’t like his off color ones, like he sometimes has.

So Couric grills Palin about policy, specifics, members of McCains staff’s personal finances.

And asks Biden about a tv ad and how he’s feeling.
