Turkey Hit by Earthquake
According to the Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory, a seismology center, Turkey’s southeastern province Adiyaman was hit by a moderate earthquake around 5AM Wednesday.
The epicenter was the town of Samat. According to the mayor of the town noone was hurt. Several buildings, however, were damaged by the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1.
Turkey is often hit by earthquakes; in this regard, it is one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Back in 1999, Istanbul - Turkey’s largest city - was hit by a gigantic earthquake which killed thousands of civilians.

At this moment, two of the most vulnerable to earthquakes cities in the world are located in Turkey; Istanbul and Izmir. If a major earthquake would hit either one of those cities, many thousands - perhaps as many as 10,000 - people would die.
For some reason the Turkish government does not seem to be all too willing to invest in safety measures. Everyone knows that Turkey is vulnerable, yet nothing is done to protect the population. If another earthquake would strike killing thousands, Ankara would be to blame.
