Palin’s Child
Although Michael Merritt already wrote about the latest controversy surrounding Sarah Palin, that she would not have given birth to her son Trig, I think that quite some remains to be said on this subject nonetheless.
Jazz Shaw of The Moderate Voice published a photo that, in his opinion and that of many left of center bloggers who support Obama with a passion seldom seen before, ‘proves’ that Sarah Palin was not visibly pregnant shortly before she allegedly gave birth to Trig.
A fierce debate ensued; did she lie about being pregnant and giving birth to Trig? If so, why? How can Democrats use this against her?
She was slammed and humiliated. The question itself was more insulting than anything else Palin may have encountered in her life.
Jazz was forced to rescind later when other photos turned up that clearly show Palin was pregnant.
But it is too late to backpeddle, apologize and move on for those who brought up this subject and who have now already done tremendous damage to Palin’s image and reputation. After all, in the end rumors are heard by many more people than the news that the rumors are false.
The issue itself speaks ill, not of Palin but of the blogosphere and partisan ‘citizen journalists’ who are more than willing to publish stories that unfairly destroy a person’s good reputation, simply because doing so may help their favorite candidate or because it will help them get some more hits.
Such an issue - whether she gave birth to Trig or not - should be ignored by any serious person, website, blog and newspaper until bulletproof evidence surfaces that shows Palin to be a liar. Until that point is reached, however, the rumor should be publicly dismissed as just that; a rumor, not worthy of one’s time and attention.
The entire subject is sickening. Posts are published that tear down a woman because the author thinks the woman may have lied about her pregnancy (for what reason, how, etc. remains vague), which is a ludicrous statement in itself. If a person would take 1 minute to think about what he is writing, he would stop and start working on something else, but in the partisan blogosphere, there is no room for thinking. There is only room for slanted stories that either defend one specific candidate or slam another one.
