25 People Killed in Iraq Suicide Bombing
A suicide bomber killed approximately 25 in Iraq on Sunday.
The bomber blew himself up at the moment a crowd had gathered to celebrate the return of an individual who had been detained by U.S. forces.
The attack occured inside a tent set up outside a house in the Abu Ghraib area. Abu Ghraib is, of course, infamous because of its prison; the Abu Ghrab prison was used by Saddam Hussein’s government. Many innocent people, political dissenter, were tortured and possibly killed there. Later the U.S. used the same prison to incarcarate terrorism suspects. After a couple of months, photos were published in Western media showing how U.S. soldiers treated their Iraqi prisoners; they were humiliated tremendously.
Residents said the celebration was organized by Sunni Sheik Ayyid Salim al-Zubaie. His won was released earlier Sunday from camp Bucca in southern Iraq.
Aside from the 25 dead, 29 others were wounded in the attack.
