Hacker Exposes Chinese Olympic Fraud

August 21st, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

The New York Times, the Associated Press and a private person, a hacker, have all found quite solid evidence that the Chinese government has cheated during this year’s Olympics in Beijing, China’s capital. Records found online prove that two Chinese athletes are only fourteen years old, that is two years below the minimum age.

Interestingly enough, the Chinese government has gone Big Brother on everyone. It denies the accuracy of the evidence, after which it quickly deleted all evidence it can find.

This sad chapter in the history of the Olympic Games proves one thing:

1. The Chinese government is great at censoring the Internet and more than willing to fool, not only its own citizens, but foreigners as well.

2. The Beijing Olympics are, to a large degree, fake. It was a mistake to award this year’s Olympics to China for a variety of reasons. This one particular reason was not mentioned before the games started, but it has proven to be one of the major concerns. China is, basically, cheating. It will do whatever it has to do in order to win as many medals as possible. Disgracing this sacred tournament is not a big deal to it.

Well something was definitely wrong, because China was racking up all the medals like as if they were nothing. It seemed to me that either their government threatened the lives of Chinese athletes so that they are forced to do great, orrr, the more likely situation is that they gave them performance enhancing drugs and other ways for a slight advantage.

China racks up the medals in events that major nations have not focused on.  China’s strategy is to gain the most amount of gold medals possible so it can declare itself the "winner".  This is to stoke nationalism in a time of economic desperation.

Congrats, China, on winning something that no longer has meaning, thanks to you.  I hope it was worth alienating the international community.

Oh and by the way, all the stereotyping in your newsbytes won’t make something true.

pp, no, it’s the statement of a person who has legitimate doubts about the anomalous jump in performance. They are doubts that occur to anyone who looked into the baby eyes of one of the China gymnastics team, a girl who looked 7, and who not even the hardest squinting and wishful thinking will make 16.

pp it would be normal if China won a lot of medals, they always do. That’s not the issue. The issue is that between the more than questionable age of the athletes, these uncovered records and widespread reports of judging that favors China,  there are more than reasonable doubts about how fair these Olympics are.

I have no problems with China getting a lot of medals and given 1.3 billion to choose from for olympics, they SHOULD be the country getting the most medals.

However, everyone has got eyes and I don’t need a court decision to tell me that somebody is less than 16 years old if I see someone who looks half that age.

I was actually looking forward to congratulating China on the wonderful opening as well as some of the great performances by some of their athletes and I’m weary of jealous Westerners (by that I mean the British press) who will do everthing in their power to discredit China’s accomplishments…

BUT the Chinese make it very very difficult to defend them when you see a 7 year-old judged "not pretty enough" to appear as singing her own song OR the gymnasts who look half the official age.

    So I hope I’ve been able to provide a "non-Western" viewpoint…
