French Fighting Near Kabul
French troops are involved in a large battle 30 miles outside of Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul. According to reports, French troops were on patrol when they were attacked by Taliban militants Monday. The French fought back and at least 13 militants were killed.
Tuesday the fighting started again. The French government fears the French too will lose troops.
What is more worrisome than anything else is that the attack took place so close to what is considered a government stronghold Kabul. 30 miles is nothing. Most fighting between the allies and the Taliban takes place in certain provinces, mostly far removed from Kabul. This attack gives one the impression that the Taliban are able to expand their powerbase, or that they at least think they can.
