Abbas Representatives Arrested… by Hamas
It seems that the minor civil war between Hamas and Fatah is flaring up once again; Hamas has now, in response to a series of bombings in Hamas-controlled Gaza, arrested several representatives of Palestinian President and leader of Fatah, Mahmous Abbas (Abu Mazen).
Hamas security men detained Ibrahim Abu an-Naja and Zakaria al-Agha, who were appointed by Abbas to oversee Fatah in the Gaza Strip after Hamas Islamists seized control a year ago.
Hamas forces also arrested three local governors who were appointed by Abbas, Fatah officials said.
The main question is how Fatah will deal with these arrests. If Abbas remains calm yet unwilling to compromise he will gain respect. If he crumbles and gives in to Hamas in any way, he will lose respect and, thus, authority.
