Could Obama’s History Be Made Up?

July 24th, 2008 By: Michael Merritt | Tags:

Ed Morrisey at Hot Air says that the existence of a birth announcement in a 1961 Honolulu Advertiser should be enough to prove that Barack Obama is a natural-born (not naturalized like I flubbed in my last entry on this issue) citizen, but notes that others, like Reason’s Dave Weigel, say it won’t be enough for the most ardent conspiracy theorist.

First the announcement in question:

Barack Obama's Birth Announcement

And Morrisey’s analysis of what this means:

Unless someone wants to argue that the Advertiser decided to participate in a conspiracy at Obama’s birth in 1961 to provide false citizenship on the off-chance that an infant from a union of a Kenyan father and a teenage mother would run for President, then I’d say the “mystery” is over.

This announcement was not found by, as might be expected, the usual suspects (the “Obamania media” as they’re known by some), but by one researcher trying to prove that Obama wasn’t born in the U.S: Lori Starfelt, who’s part of a team creating an anti-Obama documentary for the pro-Clinton PUMAs.  It was posted by “TexasDarlin,” another person researching this issue.

I’ve got to hand it to these people.  Even if their effort is only to going to lead to the conclusion that he is a citizen (which, with this announcement, would seem to be closer and closer to the case), they’re pretty good researchers.  I think rooting out possible corruption and deception is not a bad thing.

So, the announcement was published.  To those who will question its authenticity, Lori, the researcher, explains:

In 1961, the hospitals would take their new birth certificates to Vital Records. At the end of the week, Vital Records would post a sheet that for the news paper to pick up that contained births, deaths, marriages and divorces. The Advertiser routinely printed this information in their Sunday edition. This is not a paid announcement that his grandmother could arrange. This is information that comes from Vital Records - we know this because this particular section reflects those records. They didn’t have a provision for paid, one sentence announcement that would be included in the Vital Records. At the time, if a child was born outside a hospital, the family would have 30 days to apply for a birth certificate and Vital Records would expect to see prenatal care records, or pediatrician records of the first check up, etc. They’d also want the notarized statement from the mid-wife. Of course, they can apply later but that would noted as a different kind of birth certificate. I think TD has already addressed that. This information was received by Vital Records the first week of his birth = that suggests the hospital.

But some still are not convinced.  Now the conversation seems to be moving from “is he natural-born” to “does he or did he ever hold dual citizenship?”  Then there’s other inane things, like this:

5. His father didn’t stick around. On a related note, have you noticed that there are no photos of Obama as an infant?

No baby photos of Obama?  A long history of work within the United States, but possibly a murky childhood, that some say is unverifiable?  I think I’ve heard something like this before.

Saul Tigh

Oh my God(s)!  It all makes sense now!  Barack Obama is the final undiscovered Cylon!  These researchers ought to demand a blood sample from Obama to prove that he’s not a biomechanical machine bent on the domination and/or destruction of humanity!  Or…not, as the final five appear to be mostly sympathetic to human causes.  Yes.  That could explain his inspiring speeches that appeal to humanity.  Maybe…

Whew!  We might be safe, people!  Still, I think Barack Obama ought to send his blood sample to Gaius Baltar right now!  On the other hand, that might be a bad idea, given the good doctor’s unpopular status with most people.  Perhaps Dr. Henry Lee could substitute?

Do it, Barack! Prove that you’re a full-blooded human!

A True Believer AFDB-wearing conspiracy theorist sees EVERYTHING as confirmation of The Sinister Plot.

I really don’t like Hot Air (Cox & Forkum art taking place in your design is a sure sign) but Morrisey gets mad props for putting down the fear-spreading morons out there

So everything’s on the up and up.  Cool.  So now why won’t he release a copy of his original birth certificate?  He’s still hiding it. ☺

You don’t need to be an ardent conspiracy theorist to question Barack’s citizenship.  He released a forged document to KOS to try to dispel rumors about this subject.  So what is he hiding?

    Frannie;
Move on.  If you oppose Sen. Obama’s candidacy, do so on substance, like say… his policies.  But hanging onto the citizen "secret" like a dog with a bone gets you no where.

And along comes Frannie to verify my comment #1.

He’s a natural-born citizen, born to at least one citizen parent on and born on American soil. Others have shown conclusively that his released Certificate of Live Birth is indeed the real deal, not some forged Photoshop. Give it a rest already.

What Chris said. There’s plenty to criticize about Obama without having to make things up. You want to have fun? Ask him about his amazing vanishing state senate records, or his campaign finance manager.
