Al Qaeda’s Market Crash is Real

July 20th, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

Recently I wrote about an article in which it is argued that Al Qaeda is quickly losing popularity in the Arab world. Increasingly more Arabic Muslims - Muslims in other parts of the world tended to be not (so) supportive of Al Qaeda beforehand - believe that what Al Qaeda is doing is immoral, and not in the interest of Muslims. They see that Al Qaeda kills Muslims and non-Muslims alike, not caring who suffers.

And now yet another article confirms this notion.

I suggest you read it in its entirety. Al Qaeda is quickly losing support, and that is very important. Especially because those who may have supported Osama Bin Laden et al. once can now clearly see what happens if Al Qaeda actually does what it wants to do. To many Arabs, I would venture to say, Al Qaeda’s words and message sounded nice and all when the terrorists were fighting abroad, but now that Al Qaeda is fighting in their own countries, at their own homes, Arabs are finding out that the leaders of this organization are truly radical, insane, and coldblooded murderers, who do not care about the life of anyone.

When you look around and you see those who proport to be on your side yet are blowing up your friends in the market for the greater good it does not take long to see that Al Quaida is nothing more then a bunch of evil hooligans who thrive on death, destruction and fear.

Al Quaida’s time is over.  Terrorism is not but AQ is hurting right now.  I have said before that when Iraqi citizens rise up and take back their country then we will know it is time to leave.  They are headed there now.

Do not underestimate the power of romanticised violence. The Algerian Islamists have been pretty brutal since before AQ came on the scene and are now even AQ affiliates, yet they still keep going.

Emotion is a stronger force than logic or morality.
