Berlin Forges Master Plan for Prisoner Exchange
The German newspaper the SPIEGEL reports that ‘a German intelligence agent has been brokering a prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hezbollah on behalf of the United Nations. Now an official proposal is on the table, and Jerusalem is due to decide shortly whether to accept it.
Here is what the proposal boils down to:
Hezbollah returns the two Israeli soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev (who are believed to be dead)
Israel releases four Hezbollah terrorists who were captured in the war following Regev and Goldwasser’s kidnapping, hands over the bodies of ‘10 Lebanese combatants as well as the remains of fighters from previous wars.’ Furthermore, Israel ‘would also provide maps detailing the location of minefields Israeli troops set up in southern Lebanon.’
So this is Germany’s master plan. Master plan for who exactly? This isn’t, it seems to me, something that’s in the interest of Israel. If Regev and Goldwasser are dead, well, then it would not make sense for Israel to release four terrorists (who are still very much alive) who can then continue fighting against Israel and killing Israelis.
To make matters even worse: one of the four individuals who would be released is ‘Samir Kuntar, 45. The member of the Druze religion, a spin-off of Islam, belonged to an Arab terror unit that killed four Israelis in the Israeli town of Nahariya in 1979. Kuntar shot dead a man in front of the eyes of his daughter and then smashed the girl’s skull in.’
Receive bodies from dead soldiers, release psychotic terrorist. Hmm. Yeah, grand deal.
And this proposal is taken seriously because..?
