Good Numbers for John McCain

June 1st, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

The latest Rasmussen poll shows that Americans trust John McCain more than Barack Obama when it comes to the economy, against only 41% who trust Obama more on this issue. When it comes to the war in Iraq, 49% of the American people say they have more confidence in McCain than in Obama, while 37% say the opposite. Lastly, McCain ‘has an even larger edge’ on the broader topic of national security: 53% to 31%. McCain also leads Obama on the issue of taxes.

When it comes to government ethics and reducing corruption, however, Obama holds a slight lead (43% vs. 39%).

Looking at these numbers gives on the impression that McCain should very well be able to beat Obama. Yet, the two are basically tied in the polls (with all too often Obama holding a slight lead). Why is that? Easy: Republicans are very unpopular. Americans, quite simply, do not trust the Republican Party anymore after eight years of Bush.

Daniel Larison:

In light of the respective positions of the two parties and public attitudes towards them and in light of public attitudes about which party they trust more on these very issues, these numbers are amazing. The question of trust is going to be decisive, and Obama is being beaten like a drum when it comes to winning the public’s trust. Look on the bright side, Obamaites–his numbers can only go up, right?

This is no longer a question of the two parties, nor is it black or white, its do we want a president that has strong ties with his fathers muslim ways and has sat under a racist pastor for over 20 years and didn’t know it BS. This man  in the white house would be like 911 all over again.
