Pelosi Loves Iran

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has had a hard time admitting that the surge in Iraq has been reasonably successful. Sure, Iraq isn’t a success just yet, but the surge has improved daily life tremendously. But, she and her buddies were opposed to the surge from the get-go, saying that a surge would not accomplish anything, so she has to find a clever way to admit the obvious. She has now finally found such a way… Sadly, however, there’s nothing clever about it:

Well, the purpose of the surge was to provide a secure space, a time for the political change to occur to accomplish the reconciliation. That didn’t happen. Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn’t accomplish its goal. And some of the success of the surge is that the goodwill of the Iranians-they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities-the Iranians.

The politically mentally disabled Pelosi said.

In other words; rather than giving Bush credit for doing something good she gives credit to America’s - and the West in general - enemies. Not only does she prefer praising her own country’s enemies than Bush, she basically praises them for killing less Americans than they used to do.

To make matters even worse, she’s not just praising America’s enemies and praising its enemies, she’s also ignoring and thereby bashing the accomplishments of America’s (Iraqi) allies. Iraqis have broken with Al Qaeda, have even declared war on them. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki has declared war on extremists from all stripes (Sunni and Shiite alike). He has pushed through an important oil bill…

And what does the Speaker of the American House of Representatives do? Right, she praises Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollahs who have constantly tried to create chaos and havoc in Iraq, and who are responsible for numerous American deaths.

In addition to this being a ridiculous and despicable thing to say, doesn’t it kind of mess up the left’s narrative that Iran has not been meddling in Iraq? I thought we were told that all of that was just part of the Bush propaganda machine. I don’t see how you can spin this to have it both ways- either Iran’s been unjustifiably accused of aiding and abetting the militias and insurgents in Iraq (in which case they’d have no ability to influence the violence) or they have actually been doing what the administration and our military leaders say they’ve been doing all along.
So, leaving aside the slap in the face to our military, and leaving aside that she pretends that our policies toward Iran and our continued support of Iraq’s government and troops have forced Iran to show this "goodwill", her argument doesn’t even make sense if you believe the past rhetoric from her side of the aisle.
