Obama had every right to call McCain out, however, on the Senate floor was not the time and the place to do it. If Obama did not do it right now, some one else would have. McCain, however, was in no position to call out Obama on his lack of service as McCain has been an apologist for "hawks"(I hate that term) for sometime now. Veterans, now, have every right to call out McCain, and any other politician who is a veteran, for the lack of support for our veterans and troops.

The GI Bill will not be the carrot that entices our military members to leave. Over and misuse of our military force, better civilian paying jobs (which is happening to our 03 officer corps now), patriotic duty, other intangibles (brotherhood, honor, sense of duty), and socio-economic conditions (is the enlisted person married? how many years have they served? children?) will force an enlisted person to leave or stay. Likewise, throw in how the DoD is able to retain a necessary fighting force through bonuses, reenlistment bonuses, stop-loss, and other perks (all ways we have avoided a draft) and you will see they have come up with ways to make military life more beneficial to the troops than civilian life.

If anything, this new bill will entice more recruits seeing how "paying for college" is a major recruiting tool for the military. With those more recruits and a larger military force, an idea McCain/Obama have thrown around, there will be no correlation between the percent of military members or get out and the percent who stay in.

Honestly, What veteran's group supports McCain??? Name one. Can you?

C'mon. Try.

Oh yeah, McCain almost always votes against veteran's interests.

Pathetic. He is old. He has lost his marbles. He will be a puppet of his handlers.

But worse of all.

He has a temper that shouldn't have access to the the RED button.

I was practically cheering when I read McCain's statement- but the only quibble I have is that he mentioned Obama's lack of military record. He shouldn't have gone there, and I think it's a very mild example of temper/anger because obviously he was provoked by Obama questioning his commitment to veterans. I'm impressed that he was able to control his anger even to that degree though, because it's absurd that Obama gets a pass from so many people who believe he wants to change the tone but he engages in the same tactic of impugning motives of his opponent that have been part of DC for as long as we can remember.
