Obama’s 57 States

On memeorandum right now there are 37 - give or take 7 or 8- articles about Barack Obama’s latest verbal miscue:
“Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go."
Marc Ambinder says, "Obama is tired, nothing more." Sad, that.
Well, I haven’t gotten a full nights sleep yet this week and I still know how many states there are in the United States.
Obviously it’s a slow news day. Still, I had to laugh at Anthony’s revelation at Sister Toldjah’s: "I think he finally revealed his secret plan to abandon Iraq and annex Canada!"

May 10, 2008 @ 5:00 pm CESTYou guys should get a grip on life and move on… The guy was joking… He was born in the USA, He graduate from Harvard; he was in charge of Harvard law review; he was a constitutional Lawyer; he was teaching law in the university; he was a state senator for about 7 years; he has been in the US senate for about 3 years….. Do you guys really thing a guy with such a history does not know the number of states that are in the US. This is the basis for that joke… There are 50 states in the US…. Six US territories. 1. Puerto Rico 2. Virgin Islands 3. American Samoa 4. Guam 5. Northern Mariana Islands 6. Minor Outlying Islands (Wake Island and Johnston Island) And one US-Administered region: 1. Guantanamo Bay If you do the maths, the US president is in charge of these 57 states, territories, regions

May 10, 2008 @ 5:13 pm CESTActually I think it’s pretty obvious that he misspoke and intended to say that they’d visited 47 states so far, with one to go and two that are not planned- the math works, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to think that a tired mind could mix the impulse to say "50 states" with the thought "47 states" and have it come out as "57" without even realizing you’d said that.

Anybody else will ‘obliterate’ the world or go to war for ‘100′ yrs. 5 yrs in Iraq 4000 + lifes lost. Divide 100 by 5 equals 20. 20 multiplied by 4000 = 80,000 lives over 100 yrs. 80,000 mothers and fathers will cry. NO MORE WAR.

May 10, 2008 @ 5:15 pm CESTotieno- it’s your candidate who is capitalizing on ignorance with that kind of distortion of McCain’s statement, because McCain clearly said that a 100 year commitment would be fine by him if Americans weren’t being killed, not at the levels of casualties that we’ve had over the past 5 years.

McCain Mentioned the true reason America was in Iraq. Oil!. Now I will aske you to look very closely to the oil prices since the war began. The oil prices have been climbing since that war started. Tho it is political retoric about 100 yrs but the truth about that war has been downplayed by the bush admin and LIED to american people about the tru intent of that war. That is what needs changing…mothers and fathers in America should not cry any more for what Bush started for reasons best known for them. America has not gained anything out of that war other than high gass prices. They will not admit it but OPEC, which is predominantly Arab, is punishing Americans thru oil price controll. To add insult to injury, the constant bashing of Muslims as tho it is wrong to be anything but Christian has not helped. If you look closely the days when Obamas Muslim name was ranted and raved about the death toll in Iraq jumped significantly. There is more to this than meets the eye. If Americans hate muslims, then what are they doing in Iraq. And dont tell me to get rid of a dictator. There are plenty of them worldwide that America does not dispose.

This is the same guy who, a couple of weeks ago, referred to “the 48 states and Alaska and Hawaii”.
Tired? Sure. Forgets stuff when under stress? Sure.
You want a guy like that as president? What might he forget when tired and udner stress then?

You can ignore that facts all you want…it has become a common thing for those who do not want to accept that the move to Iraq was wrong and done with poor intelligence. McCain distorts things constantly ..does not even know the shiites from the Sunis…distortion of 100 yrs is needed cause honestly it sucks to be fighting and dieing for someone sitting at home sipping cognac and bubbling about nothing. And if you are going to focus on distortions about 100 yrs comeon…what about your brothers dying in Iraq for nothing…a war they should not have gotten into in the fast place. Get your head out of the san and see the reality facing America right now brought about by that war. Gass prices, unemployment, i can go on for ever. Dont dwell on a distortion…dwell on solutions. Obama is the solution.

Dont dwell on a distortion…dwell on solutions. Obama is the solution.
If he is, then it ought to be possible to convince people of it without distorting one’s opponents’ positions.

I’ll just leave it at this: it’s almost never helpful to try to excuse that which is unequivacably wrong. I think you know that McCain’s statement is being taken out of context to mean something it doesn’t mean (almost the opposite in fact, since he specifically followed up that part by saying that he ONLY felt this was acceptable if it was part of a plan to keep the peace that didn’t involve US casualties.) So don’t defend Obama for having distorted like that- you’ll get more respect from most of his opponents if you just say that’s unfortunately a lapse where he did the usual political stuff, and then move on to explain why you generally agree with and support him.

Unfortunately, the anti-Obama positions articulated thus far around here have almost always been emanations from the back end of the pony rather than the pony itself. But do keep up with the constant repeating of the same tired anti-Obama memes — it serves to bolster the confidence of Obama supporters whenever they realize that his critics can’t muster anything other than the same exact insubstantial one-liners that have completely failed so far. If that continues to be the best you all can do, you’ll continue to fail to persuade anyone.

To come out and state that he’s been to 57 states, and then have idiots here try to actually decipher what he meant by it is ludicrous. Do you actually think that he’s been to the 6 U.S Territories in the last 15 months? I know he went to Puerto Rico for vacation, although he probably thinks it was Martha’s Vineyard.

Wait…you think taxes go to the oil companies? Actually, taxes go to the GOVERNMENT. So during a "gas tax holiday", the citizens pay less, the government makes less, and the oil companies make the same amount of money. They don’t "pay for" anything.
