Jimmy Carter to Meet With Hamas

Fox News reports that former US President Jimmy “Israel is an Apartheid state” Carter may meet with the leadership of terrorist organization Hamas. Carter is reportedly planning to meet with Khaled Meshal, the exiled head of the Palestinian terror group, on April 18 of this year, during a trip to Syria.

Deanna Congileo, Carter’s press secretary, confirmed in an e-mail to FOXNews.com that Carter will be in the Mideast in April. Pressed for comment, Congileo did not deny that the former president is considering visiting Meshal.

“President Carter is planning a trip to the Mideast next week; however, we are still confirming details of the trip and will issue a press release by the end of this week,” wrote Congileo. “I cannot confirm any specific meetings at this point in time.”

Meshal, who lives in Syria to avoid being arrested by the Israeli government, leads Hamas from his seat in Damascus, where he is a guest of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The State Department has designated Hamas a “foreign terrorist organization,” and some groups hold Meshal personally responsible for ordering the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack once said of the prospect of meeting with Meshal, “That’s not something that we could possibly conceive of.”

First Carter accuses Israel of being an Apartheid state, then he goes to meet with the leader of an organization which sole purpose is to destroy Israel and to kill all Jews. As John Bolton said, “[i]t’s about par for the course from President Carter, demonstrating a lack of judgment typical of what he does.”

Steve Emerson, director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism, a watchdog group added: “I’m not surprised that Carter would do this, as he has been supporting Palestinian extremism for many years.”

Carter is still quite popular among far leftists in the United States, and it’s possible that this will make him even more popular among that specific crowd. The former president of the United States is increasingly behaving like an anti-Semite, he isn’t merely anti-Israel. When you meet with the leader of an organization that talks about killing Jews, you’ve crossed the theoretical line between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism.

Robert Stacey McCain: “Maybe next Jimmy will meet with Osama bin Laden.”

This posting is absolutely rediculous. ‘Fox news reports‘?? Since when did anyone take what they have to say seriously? Michael you let your readers down, do they have an education system in the Netherlands? Maybe your blind love of the US means you don’t care if they are right or wrong.
I find it so odd that people of intelligence can call a group that has been under occupation for nearly 70 years, and in all that time continualy harrassed, imprisoned, bombed, land stolen and  killed on a weekly basis - Terrorists? TERRORIST’S? Has the world gone mad?

I don’t get it, Sasha- on the one hand you’re criticizing the fact that this was reported by Fox News, and we shouldn’t believe anything they say, but on the other hand you’re saying that you have no problem with Carter doing this if it’s true (and in fact he has already met with Hamas leaders in the past.) So what does Fox News’ credibility have to do with anything?

    So Sasha,
I guess you support the bombing of women and children, and the extermination of the Jews.
    You don’t?
But that is exactly what you just stated.

I can’t understand why someone would use anything from Fox when we all know that they are the comic book of the media world. Its like useing Denis the Menace as a serious social debate on chilhood behaviour problems.
All these people that state that because you are against the Occupation of Palestine somehow this makes you an advocate for the extermination of all Jewish people is total nonsense and propoganda. It was the Zionists who have invited poor Jews from around the world with the promise of Land, Work and Money to live on someone elses home, blame them for the owners fighting to get their land back, not Hamas.

Yes yes, poor Hamas, so misunderstood. And Jimmy Carter, that Superman of statesmanship. How could we ever misdoubt his intentions…or abilities?

    Dear Israel,

If you feel this is a good time for a missile strike on Hamas, please use your most crosseyed markspeople and worst-maintained missiles, and use a lot of them.

We Americans will pay for the Chernobyl-sarcophagus you will need to build over the poisonous treasonous remains.

Kevin - stop with the sarcasm already. Any reasonable person would know that a whole religion cannot be blamed for the decisions of a few….Hmm, that sounded more like US & Israeli foreign policy!

Three days since this post went up, it has been confirmed by all the primary MSM outlets.  So perhaps now Sasha can dispense with the false flag argument about whether the report is actually true just because Fox reported it first?

Besides, I want to discuss Jimmy Carter, a man who instills the kind of pride in his fellow countrymen that MvdG must feel about Ruud Lubbers.  Twenty-eight years after having been shown the door by a disgusted US electorate (for which he still cannot forgive we ignorant wretches so full of "malaise"), he still hasn’t figured out that he doesn’t know what he is doing.  In fact, I think he stated recently that he only made one mistake during his presidency.  I don’t know what that mistake was (didn’t read the article all the way through), but for my money, it was his decision to run for president.

His only two positive contributions to mankind remain the Camp David accords (for which most credit really belongs to Sadat and Begin), and paving the way for the election of an anti-Carter: Ronald Reagan.  And his foolish and ill-timed meddling in the negotiations between the US and the Norks left us with a treaty shot so full of holes (Bill Clinton, no friend of mine, is often unfairly blamed for this - just ask J. Carville how he feels about the Georgian peanut farmer) that Dear Leader was able to drive several mack trucks carrying fissile material through them.

And now, this thoroughly discredited buffoon seeks to repeat his command performance in North Korea by pursuing a policy of personal diplomacy independent of both the current US Administration and its antagonists in the State Department; both of which have strongly criticized the decision (a very rare moment of unanimity between the two).  Not very many Democrats have been supportive of these efforts either, probably because they don’t want anyone in an election year to remember that he is one of their own.

Now that I am done venting, on to the main point: this risible action is notable not because of it sheer folly (Carter has made a lifetime of stupid statements and foolish decisions), but because is is AGAINST THE LAW.  The State Department had labeled Hamas a terrorist organization long before GWB entered the White House.  Facilitating and attending discussions with Hamas and Syria is not merely another example of Carter being stupid, it is a direct violation of the Logan Act.  It is not technically treason, as giving "aid and comfort to the enemy" cannot be proved legally - but it is deserving of an extended stay in the Greybar hotel.

Why does no one else think this is remarkable?  If Bob Dole had gone to Serbia and blamed the US for its confrontational policy vis-a-vis Bosnia or Kosovo, we would never have heard the end of it.  Of course, Dole would never have done such a thing, having too much respect for his country and its government (or to paraphrase the military dictum, "salute the Commander-in-chief, not the man").  Is that the issue - by now, having grown use to the spectacle of this witless curmudgeon following his own (and no one else’s) opinions to their disastrously logical conclusions, that the shock value is simply no longer there?

Of course, the idea that Carter has no respect for American law or institutions
