Obama Breaks Tapper’s Heart

April 3rd, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

Aww this is so sad: MSNBC’s Jake Tapper’s heart is broken by US Senator Barack Obama. You see, back in August 2007 he met Obama outside the Senate chamber in the Capitol. When he spoke with Obama, Tapper smelled cigarette smoke. So he asked the campaign: didn’t Obama quit? Did he smoke a cigarette? No, no, the campaign said, he never touched a cigarette after he quit in February of that year.

But now Obama admitted on “Hardball” that he smoked a cigarette occasionally after he officially quit. “I fell off the wagon a couple times during the course of it, and then was able to get back on,” he said. “But it is a struggle like everything else.”

Tapper:

It’s not a big deal in the scheme of things — the war on Iraq, a major economic crisis — indeed, it’s miniscule. Hardly worth mentioning.

Except that I don’t like feeling that I wasn’t being dealt with honestly. And as much as citizens who are suspect of the media might scoff at such a notion, many of us consider ourselves to be your representatives to help make sure our leaders are telling us the truth, and leading the country down a path we’re confident is the right one. (Corny, I know.)

Now, I’m not a big fan of Obama myself, but this is pathetic. “He lied to me about smoking!” No!? How could he?

I’ve got to admit that I’m biased perhaps; I quit for 9 months last year, but smoke again.

Obama loves you? I could swear the standard phrase was "Jesus loves you".

I’m going to assume that’s snark, just for my own peace of mind.

As for the smoking, well boo hoo. Considering her temperament, I’m guessing Michelle was also falsely told her husband was off the habit a couple of times. Nothing about a gazillion other people haven’t told their husband/wives about, and he expects better treatment? As an individual it’s forgivable because he recognizes it’s a minuscule affair, but as a reporter….it just makes me more and more in favor of the old days when the signal would go dead at night, and stations weren’t forced to cram 24 hours of television where only 3 hours of news fit.

    hehe captcha "President-elect Bravo"

Tapper never asked Obama if he smoked, if he had and Obama had lied to him then he might have something worth saying, but this is silly
