Afghanistan Makes TV ‘Islamic’
Via Memeorandum comes the news that “Afghanistan’s lower house of Parliament passed a resolution Monday seeking to bar television programs from showing dancing and other practices deemed un-Islamic.”
There we go again: you liberate them, you give them freedom… and what do they do? Right, they’re implementing a distorted version of Islamic law ASAP.
The decision came just days after the private Tolo TV channel aired a dance number featuring men and women together on an Afghan film awards program.
The Information and Culture Ministry condemned the scene, saying “dancing by men and women together was completely against the culture of the Afghan, Muslim society.”
Well, that’s nonsense. It goes against your culture because you’ve been ruled by a bunch of extremists and fundamentalists for way too long. Perhaps these enlightened people should go to a moderate and modern Muslim country like Turkey once; they’ll quickly see that being a good Muslim doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun.
If you can’t control yourself when you see a woman dancing, you’ve got serious sex-issues.
Then again, who am I talking about here; people like this force their wives to cover up because they go crazy when they see a hair or two.
And there’s more:
The parliamentary resolution, drafted by a commission for cultural and religious affairs, said dancers should not be shown on television, and un-Islamic scenes should be cut from Indian TV series broadcast in Afghanistan, said Din Mohammad Azimi, a lawmaker and member of the commission.
Azimi said the resolution also includes an article saying Afghan banks should not offer interest-bearing accounts because Islamic law forbids interest.
What’s most ironic about these issues is that if women and men dancing with each other and banks offering interest-bearing accounts goes in against Afghan culture, both wouldn’t happen. Why not? Because they wouldn’t result in a profit.
Therefore, the Ethics Knights of Afghanistan are confusing their own wishes and views with their culture and with those of the Afghan people.
One of these days, Afghanis have to learn that real freedom is being allowed to do what you want, yet not doing it because you consider certain things to be immoral / unjust.

Can’t the ISAF somehow tell them to drop this crap? What the heck are our troops doing there if they can’t prevent this?
what you say is nonsense,,, you didnt give us freedom,,and you have no right to insult our values, someone needs to teach you what is democracy and freedom,, its what people want,, and they dont want this TV programs, keep that in mind,,,,
khaliq, if Afghans don’t want the program, then they won’t watch it, and then the TV station will take it off on their own. If you have to make it illegal it’s because people DO watch those things.
