John Murtha Endorses Hillary Clinton

March 19th, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

Representative John Murtha has just endorsed Senator Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination for the presidency. “Sen. Clinton is the candidate that will forge a consensus on health care, education, the economy, and the war in Iraq,” Murtha wrote in a statement about his decision.

Murtha represents the 12th district of Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. His endorsement, then, could be interpreted as a clear sign that Clinton is much stronger in Pennsylvania than Obama is.

“Her experience and careful consideration of these issues convinced me that she is best qualified to lead our nation and to bring credibility back to the White House,” Murtha also wrote, implying that experience is a key-issue for him.

Of course, Murtha is very liberal, but such a thing doesn’t hurt one in the Democratic nomination process. He’s also a superdelegate.  Pamela Leavey explains: ‘This is a key endorsement for Clinton who also has the support of  members from the “Out of Iraq Caucus“, Wes Clark and Joe Wilson, who are all outspoken against the Iraq War.’

And that’s probably very important for Democratic (primary) voters.

Or, his endorsement could be interpreted as a clear sign that Murtha believes that the military contracts that have been so lucrative for him and his family would be more endangered under an Obama administration than under a Clinton one.

Color me a cynic, I guess.

Ugh.  Murtha is almost enough to push me into Obama’s camp.
