The problem though is Obama framed it as a question asked and answered, and his answers are ones that I strongly disagree with. Yet all of the conservatives who are similarly expressing those disagreements are being met with accusations of racism. So who is it that is stifling the debate here?

This is going to become a major issue if Obama’s the nominee. My guess is that it will become very aggressive; with (many) bloggers and people who oppose Obama criticizing him harshly and with (many) bloggers and people who support Obama arguing that Obama’s opponents are racist.

If this is going to be framed as a movement against racism - electing Obama means racism has been overcome, if not not - it’s going to be one passionate half year. No uniting then.

Kranky: It was a challenge, and one comment I made yesterday was that I think the idea of bringing all of this out in the open for discussion is a very, very good thing.

I sure did, and the right one.I think you take a principled stand in giving Obama credit for his forthrightness in this speech while still opposing him on economic and social policy grounds. You seem to be an exception when it comes to the post-speech spin.

Or some just disagree with Obama, and listen to the speech but think "there’s also this, how about this?" Rhetoric, rhetoric, rhetoric Kranky.

The more arrogant some Obama supporters become, the more aggressive the opposition to him becomes as well. The result: no unifier.
