Captain Ed Moving to Hot Air

February 25th, 2008 By: Jason, Managing Editor | Tags:

One of our favorite conservative blogs has always been Captain’s Quarters, authored by the famous Captain Ed. As of March 1st, however, Captain’s Quarters will be shutting down and Captain Ed moving over to another of our favorite conservative sites, Michelle Malkin’s Hot Air.

This move is part of a growing process of consolidation in the blogosphere, as the best writers merge their personal blogs with larger group blogs and/or cross-post across a range of sites. Here at PoliGazette, we have also added some new contributors in the last several weeks, representing the best from across the middle realms of the conventional political spectrum. We welcome your suggestions for others that should be invited to join PoliGazette.

Group blogging can sometimes be a challenge, especially when the contributors to a single site adopt strongly differing views on a particular issue. We’ve certainly seen that here at PoliGazette in the recent controversies over Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy. What makes it work, however, is a commitment to avoid the errors of extremists who make their personal relationships contingent upon shared political orthodoxy. While we may occasionally trip up individually, we here at PoliGazette try to maintain a strong commitment to ideological diversity. Our general orientation is moderately conservative, but we welcome perspectives from reasonable liberals and, in fact, find ourselves occasionally agreeing with liberals on various issues, from immigration (Jason) to global climate change (Michael).

We hope you will help us continue to grow the PoliGazette community. Tell your friends to check us out and continue to challenge us!

PoliGazette Comments Policy

PoliGazette encourages comments from all viewpoints, especially those that disagree. Comments submitted must, however, adhere to the following standards. Comments that violate these standards may be edited or deleted without notice at the sole discretion of the editors. Commenters who repeatedly or egregiously violate these standards or who attempt to argue publicly with editors regarding the comments policy may be banned from commenting further.

(1) Comments should address the substantive content of the post. Comments that repeatedly or blatantly misrepresent the content of the post or of others' comments are not welcome. Comments that respond to something other than which the contributor or commenter may have said are irrelevant and should not be posted.

(2) Comments should avoid vulgarity as well as racial, ethnic, religious, or sexual bigotry.

(3) Comments should not personally attack the character, personal integrity, or professional reputation of any PoliGazette contributor or of other commenters.

(4) Comments should reflect the contributions of the commenters themselves and should not include extensive cut-and-paste reproductions of others' words except insofar as necessary to supplement the commenter's own arguments. Link spam, trackback spam, and propaganda spam will be instantly deleted.

(5) Public figures are considered open to all substantive criticism of their policies and statements. Comments that present objectively false factual information about public figures (i.e. "Obama is a Muslim") or that attack public figures by attacking their families are not welcome. Comments that merely repeat slogans for or against a candidate without engaging in substantive comment are not welcome.

Questions or challenges to these policies or their application should be directed to the editors by email only.
