Serbians Protest Kosovo Independence
Reuters reports that ‘Serbia rallied its people on Thursday for a mass protest against Kosovo’s declaration of independence to show the world its anger at the loss of its religious heartland. Organizers expect hundreds of thousands to attend the “People’s Rally” in the Serbian capital Belgrade, in what would be the biggest demonstration since half a million filled the streets in 2000 to oust nationalist autocrat
Belgrader Milan Vukosavljevic worded the opinion of most Serbs when he said that “It’s an invented state, shame on Europe and on the whole world.”
Although Serbia has already said that it won’t use violence in order to prevent Kosovo from becoming independent in reality as well as merely in theory, the government has called on newspapers, for instance, to “be patriotic” the coming days.
A Western analyst working in Belgrade commented, anonymously: “The anger Serbs feel right now is understandable, it’s part of the process that comes before acceptance but long-term prospects for Serbia are very good, if the West is patient and lets them go through this difficult time.”
Lets hope so.

Europe and USA screwed up Serbs big time.
Albanians now have two states. Any other ethnicity on earth has the same privilege?
Thanks to NATO for stealing Serbian land…
I can’t believe how quickly some of the Western countries recognize this fake state and how absurd, black-and-white optics they adopt. The Albanians are supposed to be the good guys who fight for freedom while the Slavs are the oppressors. Give me a break…
Kosovo is the religious and historical heartland of Serbia where everyone was Serbian a few centuries ago and where they have crucial churches etc. As the Turks were trying to invade Europe, the Serbs did their best to protect the Christian continent while the Albanians were illegally penetrating there and reproducing quickly.
In the late 19th century, the populations were already around 50:50 and Mussolini helped to pump more Albanians there, to weaken Serbia, and Tito allowed more Albanians to emigrate from the truly hard-core communist Albania to weaken Serbia, too (he wasn’t Serbian).
At the end, the Serbs became a minority in their own country which some people think is enough to allow the Albanian to steal the territory and create a mostly-Muslim new country over there, during the war on Islamic terror, and give a tool kit to dozens of other separatists all over the world to follow.
Meanwhile, the NATO helps to build a new iron curtain that prevents Serbs from entering 15% of their own land while the Serbian minority in Kosovo expects a really hard time.
I can’t believe that they’re serious.
Your historical narrative seems to be missing the 1999 mass program of Serb militias raping and murdering tens of thousands of Albanians in a much clearer program of ethnic cleansing than that of which you now accuse Albanians.
But I’m sure such details aren’t very important. Those were just dirty Muslims, right? And I am certain that the nationalist Serbs that were behind it just needed "elbow room" for "Greater Serbia", right?
No, Jason, there was a lot of violence carried out on all sides during the conflicts in former Yugoslavia in the 90s, the KLA was responsible for many Serb deaths, and were linked to terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda. Milosevic was corrupt and divisive and unwilling to work anything out, but most Serbs supported his politics, which is why people who supported Milosevic keep getting voted for in Serbia, even though the country was glad he was out individually. Milosevic abused his country’s democracy, but was never really a dictator. The US and Europe have tried to simplify this as much as possible in order to sell their case.
Whats amazing is people see more complexity in the Israel-Palestine conflict than they see in the Serbia-Kosovo conflict. They’re obviously different, but on a lot of grounds they’re the same.
But the country has only become majority Albanian in the last 50 or so years. Its as if in 50 years if California becomes majority Mexican because nobody was willing to deal with immigration and economic issues between the two countries and wanted to be independent. A lot of Americans would be upset, trust me.
It doesn’t change the fact that Serbia has to deal with it, since nothing is going to change. Fighting the process is probably going to leave Serbia with a shorter and shorter end of the stick.
