But when Obama does it it’s different because he’s all about hope and change and will bring hope and change to the White House and good, inspiring words (used by someone else first).
Hope!
Deval Patrick for GovernorBarack Obama for President!

Michael is against hope, he hates Obama’s hope-mongering!!!
Obama has ended up making speeches about speeches, for lack of anything else to say.
This spat is kind of silly though, the discussion over whether speeches are important are besides the point, to whether he has something more than speeches. McCain put it more directly by implying Obama’s speeches were just platitudes.
McCain in saying that however was uninspiring, leading Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann to mock him
When I heard this non-story while driving today, I correctly predicted that Michael would try to spin it as a devastating blow against Obama. You are, Michael, becoming quite predictable with this triviality-focused campaign against Obama.
If this kind of stuff is the best you can find on him, he’s even further ahead of Clinton than I already thought.
Anyway, speech writers borrow from each other all the time. It wasn’t a big deal when Biden did it and it wouldn’t be now except for the long-running campaign to spit dirt at Obama instead of bothering with the hard work of substantive debate. If Obama is so lacking in substance, why are the attacks on him all substance-less?
Also, apparently Obama had specific permission from the original source because that original source sat with him to work up the speech in the first place. This is no more plagiarism than it is plagiarism for someone to use Peggy Noonan’s speechwriting services after Ronald Reagan did.
