Clinton Supporters Cry Sexism
The Big Tent Democrat says that Barack Obama “needs to apologize for this remark”:
I understand that Senator Clinton, periodically when she’s feeling down, launches attacks as a way of trying to boost her appeal.
What on Earth for? Is the word “periodically” to be stricken from the vocabularies of Hillary’s opponents now? Ridiculous.
Watch the clip for yourself.
I have to assume that BTD is a fan of the former first lady and is upset by her recent flameout in the Democratic primaries. Must be - there’s no other reason to waste words on a non-issue like this.

Juxtaposed to "when she’s feeling down", not "I understand that Senator Clinton launches an attack when her polling numbers are down."
At best, it is unwise choice of words that gives the talking heads some traction to pick it up on television and radio. Simply altering the phrase to reflect non-personal objects (poll numbers, not her feelings), makes it a teflon statement that no one blinks at and brushes off Clinton’s statements.
Obviously someone thinks he’s planting a subliminal reminder that women can get a little weird when they get their periods, so do you really want a woman for president?
D’you think he’s doing that, on purpose? Anything’s possible in politics.
I agree with Sy: it’s not nothing.
I somehow don’t like this Obama guy. I feel he’s flying too high. A not-so-strongly-felt prediction: McCain in White House if Obama is the Democratic candidate.
I guess I should also suggest that any gender based comments about women acting weird or unfit one week out of the month would not only be tainted with unreasonable sexism, but probably inappropriate for a 60-year old woman.
For those of us who watched Sliders and recall the episode where women controlled politics (guess who controlled the executive in this show taking place in the 1990s), this quote is also worthwhile:
Ken: "…too much testosterone. Look at women - they only cycle once a month. Men cycle evbery twenty minutes. Who would put a man in charge of anything?"
I find it unfortunate that Obama’s ambigous words have now opened up the discussion of Hillary’s female bodily functions. They shouldn’t be a topic of discussion in this election because it may lead to an the argument that a woman can’t govern based on her different body chemistry (which is the reason women were kept out of universities, the work force, managerial positions and political positions for so long). Did Obama realize what he was saying when he said it? I mean, how could someone say this about a female candidate without realizing it could be construed as sexist?
Sy,
Actually my guess is that Obama made that slip because he likes to substitute emotional language for ordinary speech. His speeches are not just speeches, but spreading hope. His opponents don’t believe in hope. So, when Hillary’s poll numbers are down, she’s feeling down, instead of uplifted, by the wave of hope Obama is riding on.
This is silly only to a level comparable to the "niggardly" comment being called racist. It’s at least as stupid as the "fairy tale" comment being called racist.
"Periodically"? I mean really, how immature can you get? If someone says "Bush likes to make things hard" will there also be screaming in the hallways? Unbelievable.
It’s blindingly obvious that what is meant by the comment is that when Hillary is feeling down in the polls or slipping in the race, she goes into attack mode. This is nothing strange, and it’s not even unique to Clinton, it’s quite common in politics.
Wake me when Obama says "periodically, once a month, Clinton is feeling down and has mood swings".
