Toledo Mayor Boots Marines

Filed under: American, Military, Morons — marc moore on February 10, 2008 @ 4:30 pm CET

Here’s more evidence that democracy can yield piss-poor leaders.  Happily, the process is self-correcting.

Carty Finkbeiner, the mayor of Toledo, Ohio - you know, that eminent American city in the heart of the midwest that’s known for producing the Mud Hens of M*A*S*H fame and very little else - has kicked the United States Marines out of town, overriding his own police chief in denying them permission to train in the city.

The mayor’s spokesperson, Brian Schwartz said, “The mayor asked them to leave because they frighten people. He did not want them practicing and drilling in a highly visible area."

What’s scarier?

  1. Seeing U.S. Marines practicing their urban warfare techniques in full view of the public
  2. Knowing Marines didn’t get the training that their commanders thought they needed when they needed it
  3. Having (and having elected) a mayor who doesn’t know the right answer to the question

Ok.  I agree.  Finkbiener is a moron.  But let’s not lump the entire city into the mix.  The Toledo area is a great place to raise a family–as long as you ignore the crazy liberal politics.  Thankfully, I live in the burbs, so I don’t have to deal with Carty and his crew.

No one should be surprised at anything Carty does.  This is the mayor who publicly stated during a period of public outcry about noise at the Toledo Express Airport that maybe deaf people should live around the runways.  After all, they would be bothered by the noise…  This is just one of the many joys Carty bestows on the citizens of Toledo.  Here is a summary…

It might be more cost effective for the group to train in their headquartes in Detroit. It is more like Baghdada than Toledo. A few well place RPG’s could remove the abandodned homes in the Motor City

Besides, Kwame Kilpatrick could use the good press. The Marines could text a request to train in his town.

Have the  Flakes, Fruits, and Nuts moved here from Berkely? The Mayor is an ignorant fool and an embarrasment to our city.

The Mayor of Toledo said in a state of the city speech yesterday “If anyone thinks that I don’t love this country or I don’t love the military then they’re a bunch of BABOONS!”  HEY! Mr. Mayor!  OH! OH! AH! AH! OH! OH! AH! AH!
