From Hillary Clinton. Kevin Sullivan has the clip and additional thoughts. I think that people should refrain from making ads like this. It’s not just negative, it’s fear mongering. Hillary should not have done this.

Mike Huckabee brought his low-budget campaign to College Station, Texas today and wowed an overflowing auditorium filled primarily with Texas A&M University college students with his populist conservative message. (more…)

Ali Eteraz explains why he’s not impressed by the Turkish effort to modernize the Hadith (or teachings of the Prophet Muhammed). I disagree with Ali, also because it seems to me that while the government is making the effort possible, it’s not like a government effort to tell people what to believe; more researches are sponsored / subsidized by the government. But it’s a good read nonetheless; Ali is one of the Internet’s most important Muslim writers, and he’s, always, thoughtful and reasonable.
The Turkish military has announced on its website that it has withdrawn all its troops from Iraq. According to the military, the decision to withdraw the troops wasn’t forced on the Turks by outside forces: they had simply accomplished their goals. According to Turkey, the threat the PKK posed to Turkish citizens has now been removed. (more…)

People really go insane over the environment, don’t they?
Meanwhile, some funeral providers are providing natural burials — the body is not embalmed or cremated, but instead buried in a simple casket or shroud in protected green space. (more…)

It seems that Adam Gadahn’s friends can give a little party: according to quite some people their buddy has been ‘martyred.’ Less sarcastic: the traitor Adam Gadahn - who put his entire family to shame - has received his punishment, at least according to a source of TJR. True or not? We’ll see.
Reason Magazine has all the goodies:
[Obama] campaign claims a million jobs have vanished because of the deal. That sounds devastating, but over the last 14 years, the American economy has added a net total of 25 million jobs—some of them, incidentally, attributable to expanded trade with Mexico. When NAFTA took effect in 1994, the unemployment rate was 6.7 percent. Today it’s 4.9 percent. (more…)

Well done Matt Drudge. Drudge seemingly couldn’t care less that the British media and government had decided on a news blackout in order to protect Prince Harry and to enable him to serve on the frontline in Afghanistan. Druge blew Prince Harry’s cover (see below the fold for Drudge’s headline) and, now, the British army is preparing to evacuate him ASAP. (more…)

Well perhaps not literally, but close enough: in Russia voters are “urged” to vote. The Kremlin is, basically, willing to do whatever it takes to get people to cast their votes. This means that “[y]ung voters will get discounts for night club passes. Cheap groceries will be sold at the polls.” And “[s]chools and hospitals, meanwhile, are threatening to fire workers who don’t cast ballots.” (more…)

Angelina Jolie wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post about the war in Iraq. It’s actually quite a good read. She basically calls on the US to stay in Iraq for as long as it takes. “My visit left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis,” she writes. Senator John McCain is under heavy fire after accepting the endorsement of Texas evangelicalist John Hagee. The ones attacking McCain? The conservative Catholic League. They call Hagee an anti-Catholic bigot and say that McCain should be ashamed to associate with this man. (more…)

A free, throw-away commuter newspaper made its debut in Istanbul during the past week and its timing could not have been more auspicious. As far as this observer is aware, the paper’s debut has coincided with an event that has not occurred since the Czarist Russian offensive through the Caucasus during WWI - the last time Turkish soldiers were thrown into a mountainous winter campaign beyond the borders of Anatolia. It seems that John McCain will win Florida in the general elections. At least, he would win if the elections were held today. In the latest poll, he beats Barack Obama with 47% against 37%, and Hillary Clinton with 49% against 40%. In what’s clearly a bad sign for Obama, there’s this: “About 80% of Republicans are behind McCain. Only 66% of Democrats are behind Obama and 72% are backing Clinton in one-one-one match-ups with McCain.” (more…)

Here’s a quiz; it’s a great quiz for adults but also for children. My girlfriend asked me the riddle, I only found the solution after a minute or 3 / 4. My father didn’t find the solution at all. Anyway, here it is: imagine there’s a room. The room is isolated. No sound goes through it. The room has no windows. It has one massive door which leads to a hallway. (more…)

How are those examples “racist”? I don’t see it. “Obama is nearly as good as he thinks he is” is racist? That’s not racist, that’s calling Obama out on his perceived arrogance. “[Obama] wanted to explain that he was too good — too patriotic! — to wear a flag pin on his chest” is racist? That’s not racist, that’s silly. “…people here worry that Barack Obama is getting show-offy” is racist? That’s not racist, it’s criticizing Obama’s rockstar attitude. (more…)
