Karl Rove Tactics
While Clinton was crying foul about Karl Rove’s tactics, “she apparently was taking notes the whole time,” PoliGazette’s Claudia writes.
It’s true that Karl Rove did not, in fact, invent dirty campaigning, though he was certainly a master of the “art”. When Karl Rove tore apart opponents with insinuations, surrogates, and misleading ads, his tactics were decried by the Democratic Party. Hillary Clinton, of course, has had to endure quite some garbage of her own in her time. But no one is going to say the lady isn’t resourceful, she apparently was taking notes the whole time. From a Radio ad run in South Carolina:
The ad takes one line from an Obama interview — “The Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last 10, 15 years” — and juxtaposes it with GOP policies that Obama has never advocated.
“Really?” a voice over says. “Aren’t those the ideas that got us into the economic mess we’re in today? Ideas like special tax breaks for Wall Street. Running up a $9-trillion debt. Refusing to raise the minimum wage or deal with the housing crisis. Are those the ideas Barack Obama’s talking about?”
Listen to it here.
Of course he was talking about the Reagan years, not the Bush years. He also has explained that he was talking more about the way Reagan changed the course of the nation, more than praising specific policies. But none of that matters, apparently. Of course, the Clinton campaign withdrew the ad very soon after running it. Very smooth, very….Rovian, don’t you think?
Yes, it is, and apparently the Clinton campaign agrees, and is happy with it. From the Washington Post:
Clinton’s campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, seems to agree with that assessment, having effectively vowed to run her operation much as Rove did his two successful national campaigns. “She expresses admiration for the way George W. Bush’s campaign team controlled its message, and, given her druthers, would run this race no differently,” Michelle Cottle writes this month in New York magazine. ” ‘We are a very disciplined group, and I am very proud of it,’ she says with a defiant edge.”
Hillary Clinton would like to run her campaign in a way similar to George W. Bush? Does that come with or without the accusations of illegitimate children?
More importantly, if Clinton actually gets the nomination, how in the world does she expect to be able to decry dirty politics used against her considering her own record?

"More importantly, if Clinton actually gets the nomination, how in the world does she expect to be able to decry dirty politics used against her considering her own record?"
Clinton’s record of dirty politics go back much further than this election (are we still waiting for the press to cover the release of ‘The Hillary Papers’?).
Anyway, it’s never prevented her from claiming victim status before (vast right wing conspiracies and all) and I don’t see why it would now.
Time to think outside the box, Ms. Doyle. If you want to win this election for your candidate, you’d better appeal to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas. Without Her, you and Senator Clinton don’t stand a chance nor should you. If you think otherwise, ask Gov. Richardson’s sister in Mexico City. While you’re at it, tell the old man, Benedict, to release the genuine Third Secret of Fatima when he addresses the U.N. in April. Otherwise, we’ll accuse you of failing humanity like Karl Rove.
While Clinton was crying foul about Karl Rove’s tactics, “she apparently was taking notes the whole time,”
Only fair. Rove took lots of notes during the Clinton admin.
