   Hmmm I voted Putin, though I thought about Sarkozy for a while. Certainly Sarkozy is significant, and especially living in Spain, we hear about our neighboring country a lot. He’s certainly quite a leader, but in the end I take "Person of the Year" as most significant person of the year, not the best or most admirable. I thought Time was right to name Osama person of the year. Of the people listed Putin has had the most influence, the longest reach.

   Hm, to a degree I can agree with that - which is why I didn’t criticize TIME: he’s been a very significant leader this year and he has accomplished a lot (whether his opponents want to admit it or not is irrelevant) - but I have to say that I think that Sarkozy deserves it more. Why? Because he could be just as important as Putin. He’s quickly becoming the EU’s leader. Not only that, he has stood up to the unions and, by doing so, saved France. Aside from that, he also changed France’s approach to rogue regimes, which could very well tip the balance in the West’s favor.

   Don’t understimate the significance of France. It’s not a superpower anymore, but it’s still a power.
