Biden’s Confident

December 27th, 2007 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

The Politico has a fascinating article up about Senator Joe Biden. Biden seems to be quite positive, energetic and confident. This despite the fact that he’s not doing all too well in the polls. The reason? He believes that he’ll defy expectations and end up with 15% or more of the votes in Iowa.

He has been ignored by the MSM, he says, but if he finishes in fourth place in Iowa - with 15% + of the votes - the MSM can’t ignore him any longer. This will, he argues, enable him to get his message out to more people in more states.

Biden is one of those interesting figures who should do quite well, but who - for some reason - lag behind nonetheless. He’s got a lot of experience, he’s fairly popular, yet, he’s trailing - by far - in the polls.

Can Biden make a surprise surge? I’d say no. But, if he would be able to finish fourth in Iowa, with Edwards in third position (as Biden seems to think), he’ll replace Edwards as the third Democratic candidate. If Edwards doesn’t win in Iowa (or finishes a close second) he’s done. He may just as well get out of the race immediately. Biden, however, may create some momentum which will enable him to stay in the race for a while longer, which may very well result in him being the nominee’s running mate.

Biden for VP?

I think it’s too bad that he’s getting washed out in the glitter.

    "Biden for VP?"

Can’t see why not - he’d make an excellent, less burdened and moderating compliment.

    Captcha filter: "divorce","marry". Hm.

Biden really impressed me in the last debate I saw. I’m hoping for Obama myself, but would be thrilled if he chose Biden as VP. He would lend a great deal of experience, and the VP choice counts for a lot since Dick made it more than a symbolic post.

He did me as well, experience wise the only one that trumps him is Richardson, Dodd comes close, far in the back are the two front runners.  He sounded Presidential, looked Presidential and came across as being very knowledgeable yet able to associate with John Doe.   It’ll probably mean that Richardson & Biden will be quickly forgotten.

A group of independent Biden supporters have launched a website http://www.Dough4Joe.com. with the theme "Promises To Keep."

Taking their theme from the title of Senator Joe Biden’s New York Times bestseller, this group of the Senator’s supporters in his bid for the presidency have taken on-line pledge drives to a higher level.

No starry symbols–no quotes from great Americans–no fireworks or missiles going off greet you as enter this realm of presidential dignity and comportment. The Biden supporters who built this site feel that while other candidates need "window dressing," their candidate does not.

The group hopes to raise $2 million dollars through a network that spans the entire country. Consistent with their "promises" theme, the group calls upon those who visit and pledge to ". . . make 2008 the year we keep our promises. That’s a New Year’s resolution worth keeping." For that reason, they have chosen January 1, 2008 as their target date for direct contributions to Senator Biden’s campaign-in a very telling display of their level of confidence in Joe Bidens ability to win over voters in the State of Iowa.

In this age of "hedge funds" and other groups packing the end of December with all sorts of fundraising stunts, it is refreshing though not at all surprising to observe that Joe Biden’s supporters see no need to hedge their bets.

The simple eloquence of the first line of the message conveys this same dignified tone as it greets and informs the visitor, "You have come here seeking a leader; you shall leave here having led."

I’m a bit confused. Why would one want Biden to be VP and Obama as President. Biden is the one with more experience. That is like wanting your nurse to be your doctor.
