Democratic Race Closer than Ever… Huckasurge!

More Polls! The Huckasurge is continuing while Barack Obama is closing in on Clinton Everywhere.

MSNBC’s First Read reports what we all already knew: the Democratic race is incredibly close while, on the Republican side, Mike Huckabee is seriously surging.

According to the MSNBC/McClatchy/Mason-Dixon presidential state polls Huckabee is the only candidate who has a double digit lead in one of the first three states. “No Democrat has a lead outside the margin of error in those three states and the Republican races in both New Hampshire and South Carolina are also margin-of-error close.”

Iowa seems to be going to Huckabee. He now has an incredible lead in the first primary state: 32% for him, against 20% for Romney and Thompson with 11%. For the Democrats the race for Iowa remains open.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama is closing in on Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire. He’s only 3% behind. On the Republican side Romney has a reasonably comfortable lead (8%).

Lastly South Carolina: Huckabee is leading among Republicans with 20% (trailed by Giuliani with 17% and Romney with 15%). Among Democrats its Clinton still in the lead, but her lead is within the margin of error: 3%.

To recap: Huckabee will probably win Iowa - unless things change dramatically. Furthermore, if he wins Iowa he could very well go on to win South Carolina and he might finish second or at least top three in New Hampshire. Then there’s also Michigan where he’s currently leading as reported earlier today.

Between 9/11, Mitt and Huck a Huck rush isn’t so unappetizing. My feelings regarding Obama’s progress could only be expressed with unhinged hooting and the en masse launching of fireworks.

Seconded. I was really beginning to lose hope and preparing myself to stay home on election day, but now I can dare to dream that I’ll be able to smile while casting a ballot.

Part of me wants a Huckabee vs. Obama race. I most certainly do not want Huckabee to become president, but I would love to see a race between to real people. I don’t agree with Huckabee on many many of his stances, but at least I can feel they ARE his stances. An authentic race between two authentic men, in a time of so much artifice, it would be so refreshing.

Lynx: I do agree with that sentiment. I think both are real people and less fake - lets be honest, everyone’s fake to some degree in politics - than most of the others.

No doubt the neocons will knock Huckabee out some way as he isn’t their anointed choice, and the politics of dirt have yet to start from camp Hillary.
