The Christian Conservative Candidate
The Washington Times reports that Christian conservative leaders have indicated that, if Fred Thompson decides to run, he can count on their support.
Thompson will be able to appeal to a significant part of the conservative / Republican base, that much is clear. Will it be enough for him? We will see, first he has to announce his candidacy. What is clear beforehand, is that a Thompson run will hurt… Giuliani quite significantly. For now, many Christian conservatives seem to settle for Giuliani: they refuse to vote for Romney because he’s a Mormon, they refuse to vote for McCain because they don’t trust him and because he made a job out of pissing Christian conservatives off back in ‘00.
If Thompson announced that he’ll run, and he will, everything changes.

Michael,
Why any Christian would vote for Guiliani is beyond me. I believe that you are wrong in thinking that many conservatives seem to be settled on Guiliani. That couldn’t be further from the truth. If I didn’t know any better, it would seem that you are being hired by the Guiliani propaganda machine. Tell me, which Christian Conservatives are you referring to? Not any one that I know, including myself. Both Guiliani and McCain are both fakes, just like Arnie here in California. Everytime I see them, I’m reminded of Jesus’ warning concerning “wolves in sheeps clothing.” While we acknowlege the fact that warring against the Wolves (Democrats) has been a battle, this no less true when it comes to the “wolves in sheeps clothing” (RINOS). They pose more of a threat, because thier deception is not easily discerned.
Another point that you raise, which I find particulary troubling, is the idea that Christian Conservatives would not vote for Romney on the basis of his religion. That I see as a form of deep hypocrisy, when you think about the position Guiliani has taken on Gay and Abortion rights. A Christian truely has to violate his conscience to vote for such a wayward Catholic. I have no problem voting for a Mormon, as long as he espouses and promotes the same Family values that are consistent with Christianity. I’ve known alot of Mormons and they are good, descent and moral people. Just because that theology is twisted, doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t vote for him. As a matter of fact, Catholic theology is no less twisted than Mormonism, so go figure, especially when you have a reprobate like Guiliani. The only thing that bothers me about Romney is his appearance of having “John Kerry” syndrome.
His religion should not matter, if his is a God fearing man, supporting a Christian Worldview.
