I must say, I understand your view. One despairs sometimes at the knee-jerk pushback that defines a large portion of the blogosphere.
Moderation implies, I think, a willingness to concede the flaws on one’s side and in one’s views. For example, I find Bush’s arrogance (clear since his 04 debate with Kerry) to be disturbing, and a cause of many of his - and the US - current problems. I note that Michael here has a low estimation of Bush. Yet we are both sort of conservative. It is heartening to see liberals willing to do the same.
But it is disheartening to see those who argue in bad faith (i.e. knowing very well the reality, but arguing nonetheless) in order not to yield a political point…or because they are blinded by hatred.
Moderate voices are important…even when they disagree.
